Phyllodium pulchellum known as fish scales plant is a perennial plant with slender, branching stems that become more or less woody. It can grow 50 – 250cm tall. This species has a symbiotic relationship with certain soil bacteria; these bacteria form nodules on the roots and fix atmospheric nitrogen. Some of this nitrogen is utilized by the growing plant but some can also be used by other plants growing nearby. The plant is harvested from the wild for local use as a medicine. The roots and leaves are used for reducing fever and as an antiphlogistic and diuretic. A decoction of the roots is used as a post partum protective medicine for mothers; to relieve liver dysfunctions; and also in the treatment of some psychotic symptoms, including delirium, fibrillation and weight loss. The leaves are applied externally to treat pockmarks and ulcers. The whole plant is used in a post-partum treatment; to treat rheumatic fevers; to cure toothache; to help dissolve internal blood clots; and is also considered a remedy for convulsions in infants. A decoction of the bark is considered an antidote to poisoning, and is also used in the treatment of haemorrhages, diarrhoea, and to cure eye diseases. The flowers are used in the treatment of biliousness.
گیاه فیلودیوم (گیاه پولک ماهی) گیاهی از خانواده فاباسه است که برای مردم محلی استوایی کاربردهای دارویی زیادی دارد
ولی خارج از استوا مثلا در اروپا یا آمریکا به عنوان گیاه زینتی کاشته می شود
برگ های گیاه عادی هستند ولی شاخه گلدهنده گیاه بسیار زیبا است و براکته های سبز رنگی گل ها را می پوشانند که شبیه به فلس یا پولک ماهی میشود
این شاخه گلدهنده در تمام فصل گلدهی یا حتی نصف بیشتر سال روی گیاه باقی می ماند و زیبایی خاصی دارد
حتی وقتی گلها خشک شدند و زیر پولک ها بذر تشکیل شد و بذر هم رسیده شد این پولک ها همچنان سبز و زیبا باقی می ماند و خشک نمی شوند
بذر این گیاه برای اولین بار توسط تیم بانک بذر جنوب وارد ایران شده است و به علاقمندان گیاهان خاص و کمیاب تقدیم میشود
