Garcinia schomburgkiana, known as an edible fruit “Ma-dan”, is a plant species of the Clusiaceae family which has been reported as sources of a variety of compounds with biological activities. In the phytochemical studies of Ma-dan, four xanthones were, for the very first time, isolated from the branch acetone extract of G. schomburgkiana. Their structures were determined through the analysis of spectroscopic data (1H, 13C-NMR, IR and MS) and the comparison with those previously reported. Dihydroosajaxanthone , an original synthetic xanthone, is reported herein for the first time as a naturally occurring xanthone, together with three known xanthones: xanthochymone A , 1,3,7-trihydroxy-2-(3-hydroxy-3-methylbutyl) xanthone and 1,3,5,6-tetrahydroxyxanthone. These compounds, especially dihydroosajaxanthone, might be considered as chemotaxonomic markers of the Garcinia genus
The young leaf is served as a vegetable accompaniment and can be eaten either raw or cooked. The fruit is rich in vitamin A and calcium and is eaten fresh, but has a very sour taste. It can also be used in a sauce of shrimp paste and chilli and eaten with vegetables and fish. The traditional ethnomedicinal uses of madan’s leaves, root and fruit are as an expectorant, treatment of coughs, improvement of menstrual blood quality, treatment of diabetes and as a laxative
گارسینیا شومبرکیانا میوه ای سبز رنگ و ترش و خوشمزه و بسیار پر خاصیت است
علاوه بر میوه آن همچنین برگ های این گیاه نیز خوراکی هستند و خام مثل سبزیجات یا پخته در غذا مصرف میشوند
این درخت در خانواده کلازیاسه قرار دارد و بسیار کمیاب است
